What is Ether’s theory?

About hundreds of years ago,before the discovery of light as a dual particle or mainly it was predicted as particle but not as wave.So many science persons that time called that there must be some partice in the whole universe as light comes from sun to earth without air water or solid so they claimed there is ether in whole universe

And it is seeing true because sound comes from blackhole like a dragon how can it come in space having no medium as scientist discovered sound requires some medium to travel so there must be a medium where sound travelled from blackhole to james web space.
